Prepare and take your case to court! Grapple with ethical issues, craft oral arguments, question witnesses – all while orchestrating the ultimate outcome of the courtroom trial simulation.

Stanford Law School at Stanford University and LeadAmerica have collaborated to offer high school students the opportunity to learn from faculty at one of the nation’s most prestigious law schools.

The Law & Trial Conference will provide students with academic and career insights into the exciting field of law by allowing them to step into the roles of prosecution and defense legal teams in a mock trial setting. Endorsed by the American Mock Trial Association, the conference combines engaging faculty discussion, analysis of important case studies, real-world guest speakers and enriching off-campus field trips. The Law & Trial Conference is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Court is in session! — The experience of a lifetime awaits you at Stanford Law School where you’ll bring a case to trial, argue your position before judge and jury and learn what it takes to lead your legal team to courtroom victory.

At the Law & Trial Conference you can:
  • Delve into the fundamentals of trial preparation and build the foundation of your case.

Program Components

  • Attend high-quality academic lectures
    • Analyze information, engage in debate, resolve conflict and build networks of support as you practice being the legal leaders of tomorrow
    • Familiarize yourself with some important aspects of the legal system and legal practice
    • Be exposed to Stanford Law School faculty and staff – renowned thought leaders in their respective academic and professional discipline and engaging speakers
    • Speakers for the program may also include prominent attorneys, judges and legal experts from various disciplines
  • Engage in hands-on workshops designed to provide a comprehensive appreciation for law, trial preparation and witness testimony
  • Receive an illuminated insider’s view of the current legal profession – from client advising to advocacy, students are exposed to all facets of the legal system
  • Program-relevant field excursions
    • Experience the program content and appreciate regional sites of importance through field excursions designed to complement the academic and skill building objectives of the program
    • Field excursions may include visits to:  Pier 39/Fisherman’s Wharf and a courthouse tour
  • Career-focused skills and personal development workshops

** The Law & Trial conference is accredited for two (2) college credits from Loras College. No Stanford University credit is available. Tuition includes the first college credit. A second college credit from is available at a reduced fee of $299.To earn college credit, the student must successfully complete all aspects of the program (see college credit information on our website for more details).

*** Students will need spending money for several off-site meals, souvenirs and incidentals.

Students are responsible for their own airfare or other travel costs to and from each conference location.
