College Credit requires that the student successfully complete all aspects of the program (see college credit information for more details).

Leadership University spring and summer conferences are accredited for one (1) college credit issued from Loras College which is optional and not included in the tuition. The college credit (normally $475) is available at the reduced rate of $299.

** Students will need spending money for several off-site meals, souvenirs and incidentals.

Students are responsible for their own airfare or other travel costs to and from each conference location.

Program Highlights

  • Build Confidence and Team-Building Skills through a challenging Ropes Course experience that contains high and low elements, group initiatives, and team building activities
  • Obtain a front-row-seat and behind-the-scenes insight into leadership development through participation in a Community Service Project
  • Explore Washington DC, New York City, Boston, or San Francisco
  • Earn up to one College Credit


  • Spring Leadership University students to visit Mt. Vernon, the estate of George Washington.  Students will explore the interactive museum, tour the home of our nation’s first President, and walk the vast estate as they contemplate Washington’s character and leadership attributes.
  • Spring Leadership University students to participate in the Leadership Challenge -- an experiential Ropes Course at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.  Students will practice team building and communication skills through various high ropes and ground activities.
  • Leadership University students in New York to visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and view the Statue of Liberty during their New York Harbor Cruise. This visit provides students with the unique opportunity to explore exhibits, view artifacts and photographs, and search the immigrant archives to see which family members may have entered through Ellis Island and the Port of New York.
  • Leadership University students at the Johns Hopkins University to visit Capitol Hill and view our nation’s leaders in action. This visit challenges students with collecting and searching for historical facts during a leadership exploration that takes them to the U.S. Supreme Court, Capitol Hill Visitor’s Center, Library of Congress, and the U.S. Capitol Building.
  • Leadership University students to visit the historical Freedom Trail in Boston. Students discuss and analyze leadership qualities and skills of our nation’s founding fathers as they visit places such as Paul Revere’s Home, The Old North Church, the Massachusetts State House, and the site of the Boston Massacre, among others.
  • Leadership University students at the Stanford University location to tour San Francisco, highlighting the ethnic and cultural diversity of this great city, resulting in long-standing regional prosperity and mutual respect for all. Students will get a first hand look at the variety of economic and cultural hubs including visits to sites such as the world famous Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf district (including Ghirardelli Square).
  • Students that attend the Leadership University program to actively participate in a Community Service Project. Designed to help them understand the importance and benefits of becoming involved, students will gain knowledge of how to carry involvement to their community and school back home.
  • Leadership University students will enhance their teambuilding skills during the “Leadership Challenge”; a “Challenge-by-Choice” ropes course containing high and low elements, group initiatives, and team building activities.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

  • College Accredited, Academic Curriculum
    • Practice personal leadership development with an emphasis on communication skills, team building, critical thinking, public speaking, goal setting, time management, conflict resolution, and decision making
    • Participate in an interactive leadership curriculum involving many of the same activities used for skill training in international corporations and government agencies

    • Gain access to Academic and Professional Leaders in diverse fields

    • Experience the program content and appreciate regional sites of importance through field excursions designed to complement the academic and skill building objectives of the program.
    • Field Excursions, including a Challenging Ropes Course Experience may also include community service projects in addition to visits to Capitol Hill (Washington, DC), the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island (New York City), the Freedom Trail & Faneuil Hall (Boston) and Pier 39 & Ghirardelli Square (San Francisco).
