Engineering & Technology students will participate in a workshop on sustainability, sustainable engineering and quantitative analysis of a product’s footprint

Sustainable Engineering

LeadAmerica’s Engineering & Technology students to participate in a workshop on Sustainability. The workshop will start off with a mini-lecture on introduction and importance of sustainability, sustainable engineering, life cycle assessment (LCA), quantitative analysis of a product’s footprint, examples of LCA method, and green technology. This lecture will be followed by a hands-on activity based on OpenLCA software. This activity is designed in partnership with a German company GreenDelta TC (the creators of open source software OpenLCA). Students will breakdown a Lithium-Ion battery in OpenLCA and will be able to see it’s footprint via ‘Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA)’ methods. This activity will help students see the affects of a product on our environment thus experiencing a tangible example of importance of sustainable engineering design.
