Marissa Dasilva from Bridgewater-Raritan High School will take on dual majors in journalism and international relations. Key to Awesomeness: Throughout her high school years, Dasilva has been an active member of the BRHS marching band as a colorguard and winterguard for all four years. She recently participated in the LeadAmerica program in Leadership and Journalism in Washington D.C., is an active National Honor Society member and has achieved honor roll status through all four years of high school. Dasilva received the Michael E. Dolegiewitz Memorial scholarship at the BRHS Senior Awards night on Monday, and was also the recipient of a Chubb Foundation Scholarship. In addition, she is fluent in Italian and has traveled to Italy as part of the Italian Exchange program. But it doesn't end there. Even with this long list of accomplishments, Dasilva has managed to devote her personal time committing to help with many community volunteer organizations. She is a 12-year Girl Scout, and has studied and enjoyed dancing and performing since she was 5 years old

Ashleigh Hicks is an aspiring journalist who will be a senior in high school at J.P. Taravella High School in the fall. Ashleigh has a 4.3 GPA and is the clubs editor for the Odyssey yearbook staff. She is a Best Buddies mentor and in April 2011, she was inducted into the Foreign Language Honor Society. She recently participated in the Leaders of Tomorrow Case Competition at the University of Connecticut sponsored by the National Black MBA Association, Exxon Mobil, Ford, and Nationwide Insurance. She attended the Summer Journalism Institute at the University of Florida in the summer of 2010 and LeadAmerica’s journalism program at Georgetown University in the summer of 2009. She was selected to attend the program for young scholars at the University of Florida in July 2011, reserved for only three hundred students in the State of Florida. She plans to apply to the University of Florida, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Syracuse University, University of Central Florida, and Northwestern University. She plans to major in print journalism with a minor in anthropology and go on to complete a Master in Business Administration and become an editor of a major magazine.
